Tampax Celebrates Hispanic/ Latinx Heritage Month

“Strong women in my life, the energy found only in the Bronx, and Dominican culture, all serve as inspirations for my illustrations. This Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month I remember moments in my life where family traditions were passed down.

I was 11 years old when I was invited by my elders to join in on a game of dominoes. Back then I thought it wasn’t common for women to play the game. I grew up seeing dominoes played on street corners and the participants were usually retirees and cab drivers on their lunch breaks. The fact that I was sitting at the table and the elders were open to teaching me how to play meant the world to me. The face on these abuelos when they saw this young girl determined to beat them was priceless!

This moment served as inspiration for the illustration. I wanted to portray a strong woman practicing the traditions that were passed down to her and successfully winning the game.”
